A Texas woman has been arrested after allegedly punishing a young girl by taping her mouth shut with duct tape and locking her in a dog cage under a Christmas tree, according to officials.
Rose Marie Anderson, a resident of Harris County, reportedly tried to “discipline” the child, who she is said to be related to, for her behavior at school, KTRK-TV reported.
The disturbing incident occurred in a Houston home on December 13, where the 55-year-old woman allegedly taped the 7-year-old girl’s mouth shut. She then reportedly used zip ties to restrain the girl’s arms and locked her in a dog cage near the Christmas tree. Witnesses claim Anderson kicked the cage while the child was trapped inside.
The child was allegedly deprived of food, water, and bathroom access. While confined, she reportedly urinated on herself.
Court documents obtained by KPRC-TV identify Anderson as the child’s primary caretaker. She appeared before a Harris County magistrate on Sunday.
Anderson is currently held in the Harris County Jail on a $40,000 bond.
