Fabius Foster, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, recalls his harrowing experience on an uptown 4 train while he was on his way to meet a friend in the Bronx.
“I have this habit of simply lingering near the back of the train cars. And when my stop is coming up, I start making my way through the train. On one occasion, as I was walking through, I noticed there was an argument taking place. The train doors were open, so I proceeded to open them. But just as I did, I suddenly felt a sharp pain shoot through my thumb and into my chest,” he recounted.
According to Foster, the bullet ricocheted and struck his chest, causing the glass next to the door to shatter as well.
“I stumbled into the pit of fire,” he recounted. “It was a startling moment for me. The pain was excruciating, immediate, and intense. I could feel it instantly.”
According to him, his journey began at the Broadway Junction station in Brooklyn. He claims that the sole reason for his exit at that particular stop was to indulge in a quick smoke.
“I love this city”
Foster expressed his amazement at the response time, noting how incredible it was. He highlighted the cooperation and swift action from the citizens, officers, FDNY, and Cornell Presbyterian. Foster also expressed gratitude for being able to witness such blessings.
Foster plans to take a brief break from commuting by train, but he intends to resume his subway rides in the near future.
According to him, stepping out of our comfort zone or leaving the safety of our homes always involves a certain element of risk. He expressed his fondness for the city and mentioned that he would often opt for Uber rides whenever he could afford it.
The suspect managed to escape before the police arrived. Foster expresses his hope that the authorities will apprehend the suspect promptly to ensure the safety of the passengers.
