Starting Monday through Wednesday, parents of Lucas County students can register their children to receive free school supplies for the upcoming school year.
The Salvation Army of Toledo will host the ‘Backpack and School Supply’ pre-registration event, connecting parents with essential supplies at no cost.
To register, parents must bring a photo ID, proof of address, and proof of custody.
Salvation Army leaders aim to equip students with necessary school supplies to ensure readiness for the first day of school.
According to JR Fritsch, executive director of Northwestern Ohio Salvation Army Area Services, this initiative supports local families, especially in times of increased demand.
“This is more crucial than ever,” Fritsch emphasized. “Our food pantry assistance has doubled, highlighting the pressing need for backpacks and supplies that strain family budgets when multiple children are involved.”
Registration is open for students from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Fritsch shared his personal motivation behind the effort: “Having the right tools is crucial for student focus. This event shows our community that we care and are committed to assisting them.”
Pre-registration will occur from Monday, July 15 to Wednesday, July 17, between 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., located at 620 N. Erie St., Toledo.
