According to NMHealth, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico has initiated a $400,000 “Free to Provide” campaign to attract medical professionals from Texas to New Mexico.
New Mexico’s strong backing of legal abortion is being showcased through a new initiative that involves placing full-page newspaper ads in five major newspapers, along with billboards.
Six billboards with the slogan “Freedom to Provide” were placed by the state in Houston Medical Center to entice medical professionals to move to New Mexico. In addition, full-page ads were published in the Houston Chronicle, Dallas Morning News, San Antonio Express-News, Austin American-Statesman, and Fort Worth Star-Telegram on Sunday, as per the statement.
Texas medical professionals received an open letter from Lujan Grisham in the ads.
Lujan Grisham highlighted the contrasting abortion laws between Texas and New Mexico. While Texas prohibits elective abortions, New Mexico permits legal abortions for any reason throughout the full nine months of pregnancy.
In an advertisement, Governor Lujan Grisham expressed empathy towards the healthcare practitioners whose right to practice has been restricted due to a strict abortion ban, turning it into a political weapon. She acknowledged the distressing situation they are in and reminded them of their oath to prioritize the health and well-being of their patients, not the politicians who enforce such bans.
While showing admiration for healthcare workers who continue to serve in Texas amid restrictions, she also extended an invitation to those who can no longer bear the limitations to explore opportunities in neighboring New Mexico. “We are deeply dedicated to safeguarding medical liberties here, and we are implementing measures to prevent a recurrence of the situation in Texas,” she emphasized.
The governor, Lujan Grisham, emphasized once again that she believes the government should not be involved in regulating abortion.
According to her statement, New Mexico is an amazing place to reside and work in, thanks to its breathtaking natural beauty, mild weather, and a tightly-knit and dynamic medical community. She strongly believes that it is vital to safeguard the things that make the state distinctive, including the access to women’s healthcare and abortion services. She assures that as a leader, she will uphold the fundamental right of healthcare professionals to provide quality care to their patients in New Mexico without any form of interference.
“Come explore the Land of Enchantment and fulfill your passion for caring for patients. Nurses, residents, physician assistants, and doctors are all welcome with open arms,” she exclaimed.
In a bid to retain and attract quality healthcare workers, the state has launched an initiative aimed at achieving this goal. The state is optimistic that this move will help in maintaining and keeping these essential workers in the healthcare sector.
According to a press release, the aim of this initiative is to enhance healthcare for the residents of New Mexico by attracting and retaining the best medical professionals in the state. The release stated that with attractive incentives and a friendly professional environment, New Mexico is all set to emerge as a top destination for healthcare experts looking for a fulfilling and supportive workplace.
