A Missouri man, who showed “no remorse,” admitted to fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend and her unborn child during an argument. He will spend the rest of his life in prison, a report states.
On August 1, 2023, Sevance T. Brewer, 33, shot Brittany Toalson in the head during a dispute over his gun at her home in Boone County, according to ABC 17 News.
Doorbell camera footage and witness testimonies implicated Brewer, who later confessed to retrieving the weapon, drawing it, and firing the fatal shot. Toalson, who had suffered years of abuse at Brewer’s hands, was four months pregnant when she was killed.
“He didn’t feel nothing. No remorse,” said Turquoise President, Toalson’s cousin. “He was a drug addict, period. He didn’t care about anything but drugs and the damn game.”
On Friday, Brewer was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder as part of a plea deal that dropped additional charges.
He received two concurrent life sentences, each equating to 30 years under Missouri law, and must serve 85% of the sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
Toalson’s family expressed outrage over the plea deal, arguing it was inadequate and noting Brewer’s lack of remorse during the sentencing.
Toalson’s two surviving children, who witnessed the shooting, are currently in the custody of Brewer’s mother. Toalson’s family is pursuing legal action to gain custody of the children.
