If you’re a West Texan, chances are you’ve come across the popular Landman series on Paramount+. This highly successful show has garnered impressive viewership numbers. However, I was curious to know what the locals from the oil field in West Texas think about it. I reached out to them, and their responses were quite surprising.
LANDMAN GETS THE NOD FROM WEST TEXANS
I was surprised to discover that the series received positive feedback from the majority of people. It is known that West Texans can be quite particular when it comes to their portrayal in media, but it seems that many were content with Billy Bob Thornton’s depiction of a Landman in the oil industry.
Locals in the area also enjoy the dramatic portrayal of the oil fields, despite knowing that it is highly exaggerated. Many West Texans have expressed their love for the explosive scenes, acknowledging that they are over the top but still finding them entertaining.
The local oil industry workers also expressed their thoughts on the matter. While acknowledging the inaccuracies in the show, they still appreciate it for what it is – a drama series, not a documentary.
THE SMALL NEGATIVES
While the overall reception of Landman has been positive, there are a few aspects that the residents of West Texas could have done without.
The local residents expressed their unanimous dislike for the wife and daughter of Billy Bob Thorton’s character, considering them both to be extremely irritating. Although I haven’t watched the series myself, I am curious to see what exactly they are referring to. Additionally, many Odessans were disappointed with the portrayal of their city, feeling that it could have been depicted in a more favorable light.
In my honest opinion, I would recommend giving the series a watch as the positives outweigh the negatives. I must admit, I was persuaded to subscribe to Paramount+ solely for the purpose of watching this show.
