NEW YORK CITY – Manhattan’s Eighth Avenue is drawing attention for all the wrong reasons, as vividly displayed on Monday night in NYC.
Arthur Chi’en from FOX 5 NY saw illegal drug use in the open, the stark presence of the mentally ill, piles of trash, and even city bikes stacked up. Locals also report constant loitering.
“Obviously, you know, if you come out late at night, you know something might happen,” one person remarked.
From slashings and stabbings to carjackings, robberies, and clusters of illegal mopeds, scooters, and e-bikes, there’s been no shortage of recent signs indicating how dire things have become.
It’s not just the residents who are fed up; businesses, including the Garment District Alliance, have been documenting widespread drug use along the corridor.
Police data from the neighborhood indicates grand larcenies are down, but assaults are up. Robberies are down, but drug arrests are on the rise.
