According to John Chell, the Chief of Patrol for the NYPD, numerous criminals on the streets of New York City utilize illegal mopeds and scooters as their primary modes of transportation.
Following a foot pursuit that resulted from chasing a suspect who was driving an illegal scooter on the wrong side of the street, two NYPD officers were shot in the early hours of Monday. The suspect, identified as an illegal immigrant from Venezuela who was believed to have used the scooter in numerous crimes, was also shot during the incident. Fortunately, all three individuals survived the shooting.

Public police data from Sunday reveals that although overall crime has decreased in the city, robbery and felony assault have experienced a 6.3% and 5.1% increase respectively since the same period last year.
