Two teenagers in Colorado Springs attempted to break into a business in the southeast part of town but were unsuccessful in their endeavor.
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department, a group of officers were en route to a call at approximately 1:40 AM on Wednesday when they spotted a stolen car passing by. As the officers approached the vehicle, it entered an apartment complex near South Academy and Pikes Peak. Upon realizing that they were being pursued by the police, the individuals inside the car promptly abandoned it and fled on foot.
After a brief pursuit, the officers managed to apprehend one of the suspects. The individual who was apprehended is a 16-year-old, while the other suspect managed to escape.
After apprehending the teenager, the officers quickly responded to a burglary alarm at the Top Dollar Pawn shop in the 200 block of South Academy. This location was just one block away from where the stolen vehicle had been initially sighted. Upon arrival, the police discovered that a car had been forcefully driven into the building, resulting in considerable damage to the exterior. However, the burglars were unsuccessful in gaining entry into the shop.
Officers concluded that the kids had been driving away from the failed break-in because the vehicle they were driving had significant damage of its own.
The authorities charged the 16-year-old with several felonies and issued a juvenile delinquency summons, following which they were handed over to their parents.
