A Texas man has been convicted of killing three people, dismembering their bodies, and burning them after admitting to investigators that he was called to “commit sacrifices.”
Jason Thornburg was found guilty of capital murder on Wednesday. The same Tarrant County jury that convicted him will now decide whether he will receive the death penalty or spend life in prison without the possibility of parole, according to Fox 4.
In September 2021, Thornburg killed three people, dismembered their bodies, and hid them under his bed at a motel in Euless, Texas, before setting the bodies on fire in a dumpster in Fort Worth.
Thornburg admitted to investigators that he felt a compulsion to carry out “ritualistic sacrifices” and even ate parts of his victims, including a heart.
His defense team argued that he was insane at the time of the murders, suffering from a severe mental illness.
When Thornburg was arrested for murder, he confessed to killing his roommate in May 2021, during a suspicious home explosion, as well as his girlfriend in Arizona in 2017.
These earlier murders were brought up in court on Thursday, during the punishment phase of the trial.
The victims’ families are not allowed to speak publicly until this phase of the trial is concluded.
