In Kentucky, a man and his wife were shot while distributing food to homeless people.
Since 2020, Ramona Mattingly and her husband Joe have dedicated themselves to providing meals to front-line workers and those who require assistance.
After being discharged from the hospital on Saturday, Ramona Mattingly, who is terminally ill with cancer, was picked up by her husband. However, they received a call that they couldn’t ignore.
According to her, a distressed call was received informing about a woman and a 6-year-old girl who had been evicted and were in need of food.
“He fell to the ground with a loud thud,” she recounted. “Quickly, I asked someone to grab the tie strap and tie it around his leg as I suspected it was an artery due to the profuse bleeding.”
On Sunday, Joe Mattingly underwent surgery to treat the gunshot wound in his right leg.
Ramona Mattingly is afraid that her husband may never regain the ability to walk again, as doctors have informed her that his bone is shattered.
According to Ramona Mattingly, the man who shot her husband did not commit a random act of violence. Instead, he had accused her husband of hitting his car just a few days prior to the shooting.
According to the woman, her husband visited the hospital just before the incident occurred to prove their innocence. Apparently, the delivery driver had walked around their truck while making a food delivery. The woman stated that no vehicle was hit, and the cameras would prove it. She firmly believes that if they had hit the driver, he had no right to shoot her husband.
At present, there have been no arrests made by the police in relation to the case and it remains unclear whether or not there are any known suspects.
Joe Mattingly is currently waiting for surgery on his leg, and there is a chance that he may never be able to walk again.
In expressing her concerns, she stated that their efforts to assist the homeless would need to cease as she believes it has become too risky.
