Waynesboro police made a second arrest in the shooting death of a 24-year-old Alabama man.
Richard Mayfield, 24, was arrested on Tuesday, July 2. Waynesboro police charged him with accessory after the fact, and his bond was set at $500,000.
Investigators revealed that Richard Mayfield is the cousin of the first suspect, Jaylen Mayfield, who faces first-degree murder charges in connection to the shooting death of Brandon Michael Cartwright. Jaylen Mayfield received a $1 million bond.
The shooting occurred outside the High Noon Lounge in Waynesboro on Saturday, June 29.
Cartwright’s family attended the courtroom hearings for both suspects.
“When we were in there with the killer, that was hard. I’m not gonna lie to you. I studied that man from top to bottom. I felt hatred, and I know God says you should never hate. But I felt hatred that I felt. I can’t even explain how I felt. But it was hatred,” said Teresa Cooper, Cartwright’s mother.
Waynesboro police do not anticipate any further arrests in the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Waynesboro Police Department.
