More charges may be filed against a duo from Clearfield County after their vehicle was stopped along Interstate 80 in Centre County on Friday, according to officials.
Edward Stewart and Cameo Evans are facing multiple drug-related charges after authorities discovered around three pounds of methamphetamine and a significant amount of fentanyl in their vehicle.
According to the police, troopers made another shocking discovery in the backseat of the vehicle – a 57-year-old woman who was in a critical condition, fighting for her life.
The woman involved in the traffic stop tragically lost her life, as confirmed by officials on Monday.
The results of the autopsy and toxicology tests are still pending for the unidentified woman. These results have the potential to lead to additional criminal charges.

Two individuals have been apprehended in Centre County following a traffic stop on Friday evening, where law enforcement discovered an assortment of narcotics, including three pounds of methamphetamine, as well as an unconscious woman, in the back seat of their vehicle, according to the police.
64-year-old Edward Stewart was pulled over by state police for allegedly following another vehicle too closely while approaching a construction zone on I-80, near mile marker 166, in Marion Township, Centre County, as stated in a criminal complaint.
Passenger Cameo Evans, 35, who had multiple warrants out of Clearfield County, was found in the front passenger seat, according to state police.
According to the criminal complaint, Stewart informed state police during the vehicle stop that there was a 57-year-old woman sleeping in the backseat of the car.
According to state police, Stewart and Evans were separated, and when questioned by troopers, they provided conflicting travel plans. Stewart initially stated that the group was heading to Atlantic City but later changed their story, revealing that they were actually taking the 57-year-old woman to Clearfield. They also mentioned staying in Philadelphia for one night.
According to the criminal complaint, Evans informed state police that they had spent multiple nights in the Poconos.
According to state police, they established reasonable suspicion and the driver declined consent to search the vehicle during the traffic stop.
The 57-year-old woman was asked to exit the vehicle by state police, as stated in the criminal complaint.
The state police noticed that the woman was lying in an uncomfortable position, her face buried in the back seat and her body covered with a coat.
According to the criminal complaint, the troopers administered CPR to the female when they were unable to detect a pulse. They continued performing CPR until EMS arrived at the scene.
State police administered Narcan, but it did not produce any positive results.
Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and immediately began performing CPR on the victim. Thanks to their efforts, the victim regained a pulse and was swiftly transported to a hospital. At this time, her current condition remains unknown.
State police discovered a stamp bag containing fentanyl and a glass smoking device on the ground beside the victim. Additionally, another smoking device was observed in the back of the vehicle.
Stewart and Evans were arrested and law enforcement conducted a search of the vehicle, as stated in the criminal complaint.
The state police discovered a total of three pounds of methamphetamine in three packages in the trunk of the vehicle. Additionally, they found 14 stamp bags of fentanyl on the back seat, along with a plastic container containing suspected methamphetamine residue and a glass pipe.
According to the criminal complaint, Evans confessed to having the bags that contained fentanyl.
State police have reported that both Stewart and Evans have denied ownership of the methamphetamine. They claim that they have not witnessed the victim using it, nor do they use it themselves. Additionally, they assert that they have no knowledge of the substance being present in the vehicle.
According to online court records, Stewart is currently incarcerated at the Centre County Prison. He was denied bail due to the presence of other detainers and the potential involvement of a death in the case.
Stewart is currently facing multiple charges, including manufacturing, delivering, or possessing with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance. Additionally, he is charged with following too closely, possessing a controlled substance, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, Evans is currently detained at the Centre County Prison, facing multiple charges. These include one felony charge for manufacturing, delivering, or possessing drugs with the intent to distribute, one charge for possessing a controlled substance, and one charge for possessing drug paraphernalia.
According to court records, Stewart and Evans are both set to appear for preliminary hearings on March 12th.
