Witnesses report that a mother allegedly tried to abandon her child at a NW OKC gas station

Witnesses report mother’s alleged attempt to abandon her child at NW OKC gas station

OKLAHOMA CITY — A mother was arrested after allegedly trying to leave her child at a gas station while intoxicated.

Court documents reveal that witnesses saw the mother grab her child by the arm and throw him to the ground at a gas station near W Memorial Road and N Macarthur Boulevard.

Neighbors expressed their shock after hearing about the arrest of 27-year-old Amber Adams for child neglect.

“It brings pain to my heart,” said Tremayne Smith, a nearby resident.

Witnesses told police that Adams appeared highly intoxicated at a gas pump when she left an 11-month-old child and attempted to drive away. Police were called, and by the time they arrived, another person had stopped and taken the child before leaving the scene.

Officers later found Adams, who admitted to drinking wine and tequila, as well as taking drugs before getting behind the wheel. She gave conflicting explanations for her attempt to leave the child behind.

Smith, who often sees Adams and her children at the playground, was taken aback by the incident.

“They’re happy kids out there, always playing. They all get along around here,” said Smith.

He expressed his concern for the children’s well-being and his hope that they receive the help they need.

“It’s sad. I want the best for the kids. Always. Everybody has situations, but I want the best for the kids, always. No pain, no hurt,” Smith said.

A 4-month-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

News 4 learned that Adams is currently on probation in Florida for a previous child neglect case.
