A tragic accident on Monday afternoon claimed the life of 30-year-old Jarret Jackson from West Point, Georgia. According to Harris County Coroner Joe Weldon, Jackson was the driver of a black Ford Fusion that caused a deadly crash on Highway 103 near mile marker 11, in the Flat Shoals Bridge area, shortly after noon.
Weldon reported that Jackson veered into another lane, striking a red GMC Yukon before continuing into the opposite lane and colliding head-on with an 18-wheeler. The crash caused Jackson’s vehicle to leave the roadway, and he was pronounced dead after being transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital.
The driver of the 18-wheeler and a passenger in the GMC Yukon were both injured but are expected to recover from non-life-threatening wounds. Preliminary investigations by the Georgia State Patrol indicate that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash. Jackson was reportedly at fault for the incident. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
