A female suspect entered a convenience store in Waldorf’s 3600 block of Crain Highway around 6 p.m. on March 18. She went behind the counter, grabbed several packs of cigarettes, and walked off without paying.
When the clerk tried to reclaim the stolen merchandise, the suspect hit her in the face, breaking her eyeglasses. The suspect assaulted the clerk and then walked away.
Officers searched the area and located the suspect near a commuter parking on Route 925. Shannon Nicole Smallwood, 36, of Waldorf, faces assault, theft, property destruction, and other counts.
On March 19, a court ordered Smallwood to be jailed without bail at the Charles County Detention Center. Officer Huston was the one who made the arrest.
