Tornadoes can strike at any time of year in the U.S., even in December. On Thursday, powerful storms hit Texas and Louisiana, resulting in at least eight reported tornadoes. Drone footage shows extensive damage to homes in the Sieper, La., area.
While WeatherRadar shows a few storms may affect the northern Gulf Coast today, including cities like Mobile, Ala., and New Orleans, a more significant threat is set to develop on Saturday. Severe storms are expected to impact areas from Texas to Georgia.
Damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes (some potentially strong) are possible from Saturday through the night. The highest risk of severe weather will stretch from eastern Louisiana to central Mississippi, affecting cities such as Monroe and Alexandria, La., as well as Jackson and Hattiesburg, Miss. Other cities at risk include Lufkin, Texas, Birmingham and Mobile, Ala., Nashville, Tenn., and Atlanta.
