Trucking business sued for oversized load bridge strike in Massachusetts

An Alabama-based trucking company is facing legal action from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) for the destruction caused by an oversized load bridge strike that occurred in 2021.

On June 14, 2024, Suffolk Superior Court received a lawsuit against Dove Transportation LLC, a trucking company based in Lincoln, Alabama.

MassDOT infrastructure suffered significant damage due to a bridge strike in 2021, which led to the filing of a lawsuit.

Curtis Henry, a driver for Dove Transportation, was on the move with an oversized metal tank on southbound I-93 in Medford, Massachusetts, on July 19, 2021.

As the vehicle passed through the second overpass of Roosevelt Circle, the metal tank collided with the bridge’s underside, resulting in significant harm to the support beams.

After the bridge collision incident, the Massachusetts State Police handed out tickets to the driver for operating an “over height” vehicle and for violating a permit.

The lawsuit alleges that Dove Transportation was granted a permit to transport the oversized load; however, the permit did not authorize the truck to travel on I-93 south. Additionally, the permit mandated that Dove must locate an appropriate detour for any bridge that lacked sufficient clearance.

According to MassDOT, Dove Transportation is being accused of negligence in the 2021 incident and is being requested to cover all damages, costs, and interest.
