Applications are now available for the new SUN Bucks summer food program, designed to assist children in need during the school break. The federal initiative provides a one-time payment of $120 per child to help families purchase food over the summer months.
Dr. Val Arkoosh, Secretary of the Department of Human Services, highlighted the importance of this program: “Summer often means children lose access to the meals they receive during the school year. Families may find it challenging to provide nutritious meals, and SUN Bucks aims to fill this gap by offering critical financial support to ensure Pennsylvania children remain nourished and thriving while schools are closed.”
In its inaugural year, SUN Bucks will begin distributing benefits from mid-August, with all benefits expected to be distributed by October.
Children automatically qualify if their families receive benefits from programs like SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, the National School Lunch or Breakfast Program, or if they are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches.
According to a news release, families already using EBT cards will have SUN Bucks automatically added, while those without EBT cards will receive a special summer card by mail.
Applications are open until August 31. To apply, Click here.
