Texas woman shoots man who tried to break into her home, police say

DESOTO, Texas — A DeSoto woman defended herself against a home invasion on Friday night, shooting a man who attempted to break into her house. Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Octavio Flores Mondragon, was hospitalized in critical condition following the incident.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in the 400 block of Raintree Circle. According to the DeSoto Police Department, the woman noticed a dark truck tailing her into her neighborhood. When she pulled into her driveway, the truck parked behind her, prompting her to rush into her house and contact 911.

As the woman made the call, dispatch reportedly heard screaming as Mondragon attempted to enter the home by forcing his way through the rear garage door. The woman, armed with a handgun, fired at him, stopping his break-in attempt.

Police arrived on the scene to find the woman in front of her home. She directed officers to the back, where they discovered Mondragon with gunshot wounds to the chest and face and a loaded pistol lying nearby. Officers administered first aid before paramedics transported him to a hospital.

Mondragon is facing charges of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit another felony. The case remains under investigation, and authorities are reviewing all available evidence.
