Texas Woman Charged with Murder After Allegedly Killing Boyfriend; Claims She 'Blacked Out

A 20-year-old woman in Texas is accused of killing her fiancé. She is purportedly claiming that she “blacked out” and awoke covered in blood, while the victim was stabbed in the neck and beaten to death with a baseball bat.

Authorities announced that McKenzie Renee Eary was apprehended on Friday evening and charged with one count of murder in the tragic death of 24-year-old Gregory Mandle Bobenouax II.

Officers responded to a 911 emergency call from The Palms apartment complex in the 800 block of Ridgewood Drive, which is approximately 250 miles east of Austin, at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2024, according to a news release from the Port Neches Police Department. Officers were informed that one of the individuals involved in the incident was already at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas, while the other was “possibly deceased” in an apartment at the complex while they were en route to the address.

Upon their arrival at the scene, the first responders reported that they entered the apartment and found an adult male victim, later identified as Bobenouax, deceased on the living room floor, his body covered in blood.

The affidavit asserts that the male was stabbed and assaulted with a baseball bat, as indicated by the evidence that was observed at the scene.

According to a probable cause affidavit that Beaumont ABC and NBC affiliate KBMT obtained, Bobenouax appeared to have sustained “massive blunt force trauma to his head and neck” as well as a “deep puncture” to one side of his neck.

While other officers responded to the hospital to speak with Eary, who was receiving treatment after alleging to have been the victim of an assault, officers at the apartment complex collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.

According to Beaumont CBS, The CW, and Fox affiliate KFDM, Eary stated in an interview with police that she was involved in a physical altercation with Bobenouax, whom she identified as her live-in fiancé and the father of her child, after she returned home from work that evening. Eary asserted that Bobenouax struck her in the back of the head with a closed fist and subsequently strangled her to the extent that she “blacked out” during the argument.

Eary allegedly stated that she was bloodied upon awakening from the coma. Next, she contacted a family member to retrieve her and her child. After that, the family member transported Eary to the hospital.

During police interviews, numerous residents informed investigators that they could hear the couple fighting in their apartment. An elderly woman was reported to have arrived at the couple’s residence at some stage after the fight appeared to have concluded. According to reports, numerous residents claimed that they had heard the elderly woman yelling, “how, how, how, how.”

Law enforcement detained Eary at the hospital and then took her to the Jefferson County Jail, where she received a homicide indictment. She is currently being detained on a $100,000 bond, according to records.

Eary holds outstanding warrants in Indiana for disorderly conduct, public intoxication, minor consumption, and neglecting to appear, according to KFDM.
