Officials announced on Tuesday that a program aimed at acquiring land in Texas for the purpose of establishing detention centers for migrants facing deportation will be named after Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was tragically murdered.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham has recently unveiled the “Jocelyn Initiative,” a groundbreaking program initiated by the Texas General Land Office (GLO). This visionary initiative aims to acquire additional land to bolster federal immigration policies.
Nungaray met his untimely demise in Houston in June, as authorities revealed that the individuals responsible for his murder were in the United States unlawfully. Subsequently, it was discovered that the perpetrators were affiliated with the notorious Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua.
Buckingham, a former Republican state senator, mentioned that the recently acquired plots would also be made available to the Trump administration. The purpose would be to build detention centers intended to accommodate migrants who are scheduled for deportation. This initiative aligns with Trump’s mass deportation efforts.
“A facility here will serve as the last stage of processing for these violent criminals before their deportation. By doing so, we aim to alleviate the strain on our local jails and ensure the safety of our Texas children,” stated Buckingham during a press conference held in Starr County on Tuesday, November 26, to mark the commencement of border wall construction.”
“Buckingham affirmed his commitment to assisting the Trump administration by stating, ‘President Trump and Mr. Homan, I genuinely meant it when I said I will do everything in my power to support this administration.’ He further announced, ‘That is why I am pleased to extend our offer beyond this property.'”
“We are committed to finding suitable land within my jurisdiction for leasing, in order to construct facilities for the deportation of violent criminals. Several properties under our office’s purview have already been identified, and we are fully prepared to initiate this process on the very first day of the Trump presidency.”
Nungaray’s mother and grandmother attended the event, having previously joined the President-elect on a visit to the border wall. The Republican Party has chosen this family to represent their stance on illegal immigrant crime.
Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21, and Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, the alleged killers of the girl, had entered the country illegally. However, immigration officials released them for a later court appearance.
During the briefing on Tuesday, Jocelyn’s mother, Alexis Nungaray, expressed her profound gratitude for the impact her daughter has made on countless individuals, even those she has never had the opportunity to meet. “Knowing that Jocelyn has touched the lives of millions of people means everything to me,” Alexis shared.
It’s a daily battle, a constant struggle. Some days are better than others, but the pain never goes away. She’s no longer with us because of the actions of cruel individuals who were allowed into this country.
According to Alexis, her main objective is to seek justice for her daughter and ensure the safety of others in Texas.
Plans to continue border wall construction
According to Buckingham, the construction of a border wall on her ranch in Texas is progressing rapidly, with a rate of one mile per week. She also mentioned that there are plans to further increase the pace of construction in the upcoming weeks.
During the event on Tuesday, Texas Representative Chip Roy emphasized the importance of both physical structures, such as the 30-foot-high fence, and funding for the border patrol in ensuring the security of the United States.
“We are here because the Biden administration, which is still in office and holds the power of the presidency, has completely neglected its responsibility to secure the border. As a result, millions of individuals, including dangerous criminals, have been deliberately and intentionally released into our streets,” expressed Roy.
According to the Congressman, Republicans have been entrusted with the responsibility to protect the border and remove millions of undocumented immigrants.
Buckingham had previously extended an offer to Trump, granting him access to a sprawling 1,402-acre ranch along the Rio Grande on the U.S.-Mexico border. The purpose of this offer was to facilitate the construction of mass deportation facilities, which would be utilized to detain the individuals whom Trump had pledged to remove from the country.
Trump has not commented on the offer from Buckingham, despite his need for additional resources to carry out his hardline mass deportation policy.
On Wednesday, Homan visited Eagle Pass and toured the Texas-Mexico border alongside Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Homan and Abbott are set to pay a visit to a Texas military base situated along the banks of the Rio Grande, as reported by NewsNation. The two recently appeared together in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Homan issued a response following Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s declaration that he was prepared to go to jail in opposition to the border policies implemented by the Trump administration.
“You are undoubtedly violating the law,” Homan stated firmly. “If he simply takes a look at the Arizona v. U.S. case, he will realize that he is indeed breaking the law. However, I must acknowledge one point of agreement between myself and the Denver mayor. He seems willing to face jail time, and I am prepared to ensure that he ends up behind bars.”
According to Homan, knowingly harboring and concealing an illegal alien from immigration authorities is considered a felony.
