Texas border patrol saves migrants left behind in national park

According to officials, a migrant was able to contact 911 after being abandoned by human smugglers.

A group of over a dozen abandoned migrants was recently rescued from the rugged terrain near the Texas-Mexico border in Marfa, Texas.

On November 16, Border Patrol agents were alerted to a distress call reporting the discovery of numerous migrants, including several children, in a highly secluded region of Big Bend National Park.

Thirteen migrants were discovered near San Vicente Crossing Road after a distress call was made to 911. These individuals had been abandoned by human smugglers. Despite the challenging terrain, all of the migrants were successfully rescued and found to be in good health.

Big Bend National Park is an expansive natural wonder that encompasses over 800,000 acres, solidifying its status as one of the largest national parks in the United States. This remarkable park also serves as the backdrop for the Border Patrol sector, which oversees an impressive stretch of over 500 miles along the Rio Grande. Throughout its history, this particular region has encountered challenges related to migrant issues.

Between November 25, 2021, and December 1, 2021, authorities apprehended over 200 migrants within Big Bend National Park. This particular region is characterized by harsh temperatures, ranging from scorching heat to freezing cold nights, and a scarcity of water. Consequently, these conditions pose a significant danger to human life.

“This rescue serves as a stark reminder of the callous disregard smuggling organizations have for human life,” emphasized Acting Chief Patrol Agent Marco Cervantes. “The perils of this journey are particularly pronounced for children, who are frequently subjected to life-threatening circumstances without access to sufficient food, water, or shelter.”

Cervantes emphasized that this rescue serves as a stark reminder that smugglers prioritize profits over human lives. The Border Patrol highlighted that numerous migrants, including families with children, are enticed into embarking on this perilous journey by human smugglers who deceive them with false assurances of a smooth and effortless passage, only to abandon them in hazardous conditions.
