As per the arrest affidavit, the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office investigators found evidence of communication between Hall and a 29-year-old pregnant inmate from March 13 onwards.
Reports suggest that a Texas-based adoption lawyer attempted to buy two babies from women in custody by depositing money into their commissary accounts.
According to an arrest affidavit, Jody Hall, a 68-year-old individual, is facing two charges of sale or purchase of a child. Allegedly, investigators from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office discovered communications between Hall and a pregnant inmate, aged 29, dating back to March 13.
According to the message, Hall identified herself as the “Director of the Adoption Agency” that the recipient had previously signed with. She requested that the recipient reach out to her and mentioned that she had “cash for your commissary.”
According to reports, the individual allegedly had discussions with her for approximately two months regarding the potential adoption and inquired if her partner would be willing to relinquish their parental rights.
According to reports, Hall wrote the following statement: “I do not require birth mothers who deceive me solely for financial support. Furthermore, I cannot provide any further assistance if the father is unwilling to sign the necessary paperwork. This indicates that he wishes to take responsibility for the child if he is indeed the father.”
According to detectives, Hall reportedly deposited $846 into her commissary account. Interestingly, in Texas, it is not considered illegal for adoptive parents to cover the medical and housing expenses of expectant mothers who have decided to put their babies up for adoption.
According to detectives, Hall provided cash to the mother of a baby while she was an inmate at the jail. However, the cash provided did not meet the set standards. In early May, the inmate had a change of heart and decided to keep the baby, which upset Hall.
According to reports, Hall wrote a message accusing the person of being a scammer and threatening to inform the prosecutor about how their family had supported them. Hall also claimed that the person had scammed the family with the help of their boyfriend, who had posted pictures on Facebook holding the baby. The message concluded with Hall calling them a liar.
According to reports, researchers managed to obtain messages that were exchanged between Hall and another pregnant inmate through their jail tablets. In one of the messages, Hall allegedly offered to help the inmate who was pregnant, saying, “I’ve assisted a lot of girls like yourself. We have families who are unable to conceive and would be thrilled to adopt your child.” Additionally, Hall went on to state that the inmate would have the freedom to choose a family and communicate with them as well. The message further stated that Hall would provide the inmate with $100 weekly, which they could use to purchase things on the tablet or anything they wished.
According to reports, a message allegedly written by the accused stated that the individual would receive $2,500 upon release. Additionally, the message offered the option of adding funds to the individual’s books on a weekly basis. The accused, identified as Hall, was apprehended on July 23 and is currently being held at Hays County Jail awaiting further legal proceedings.
