A 17-year-old has been handed a sentence of over 15 years in the Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) for his involvement in the tragic death of Jarod Rogers, a Kansas man. Kyleigh Irma Guzman has been convicted of intentional second-degree murder, leading to a sentence of 147 months, as well as two counts of aggravated robbery, resulting in an additional 55 months behind bars.
In late November 2022, Shawnee Police attended a welfare check and discovered Rogers with a gunshot wound. Rogers died of his injuries on December 2, 2022.
According to court documents, five teenagers were all involved in Rogers’ death. Fernando Reyes-Lara, 18, has pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder and aggravated robbery.
Reyes-Lara received a sentence of 400 months in jail, amounting to over 30 years in total. Three other 17-year-olds implicated in Rodgers’ death are also facing criminal charges.
Guzman will serve all 202 months concurrently in KDOC detention, plus an additional 36 months following release.
