An 18-year-old man has been arrested in northwest Houston, accused of multiple rapes and an attempted assault. The suspect, identified as Jayden Demouchet, is being held on a $2.1 million bond following his capture at a north Houston apartment complex on Friday.
Police allege that on Oct. 17, Demouchet broke into a woman’s apartment at a West Gulf Bank complex, where he raped her at gunpoint. Weeks later, on Friday, he reportedly struck again at the Concord at Little York apartment complex, raping another woman after breaking into her home.
Demouchet’s alleged spree didn’t stop there. After fleeing the second crime scene wearing only his underwear, police say he hid near a trash can before spotting another woman. He reportedly followed her to her apartment, broke in, and attempted to assault her. A knife-wielding relative intervened, thwarting the attack.
Residents of the complex expressed relief after Demouchet’s arrest.
“When they got him, everybody just said, ‘Whew, thank God,’” said Rita Jones, a neighbor. “I told the police I’m proud of them. Keep up the good work. But thank God for getting this man off the street.”
While Demouchet is charged with the Oct. 17 rape, police are investigating whether he is connected to other sexual assaults reported in October along West Gulf Bank. Authorities have yet to confirm if he matches the description of a suspect they were seeking in connection with three similar cases in the area.
This arrest marks a critical step in addressing the string of assaults that have alarmed residents. Police urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
