On Friday night, the moon will rise at 8:47 p.m. in the Pee Dee region, while in the Border Belt, it will rise slightly earlier at 8:45 p.m.
June’s full moon is known as the strawberry moon, owing to the ripening and indulgence of strawberries during this month. Additionally, it is referred to as the green corn moon, the mead moon, and the hot moon.
Although it may sound like the upcoming full moon will have a rosy hue, the name “strawberry moon” simply refers to the ripening of berries in June. However, this doesn’t mean that the moon won’t have a beautiful golden glow. Depending on the amount of light that is able to refract through a process called “rayleigh scattering”, there may be a slight reddish tint visible.
The moon will appear to be full on both Thursday and Saturday, but the actual peak of the full moon will be on Friday night.
During the upcoming full moon, high tide is expected to be slightly higher than usual, while low tide is expected to be a little lower than normal. This is a typical occurrence during most full moons.
