Southeast Texas family celebrates Thanksgiving together for the first time after completing the adoption process

Jayda and Aiden Walker, two siblings, are now blessed with not just a new last name but also a loving forever home to celebrate this enchanting season.

This Thanksgiving, a family from Southeast Texas is opening up about their remarkable journey filled with love, resilience, and fresh starts.

After more than two years of navigating the adoption process, Ashley Walker is finally preparing to gather with her children at the dinner table for the very first time.

Jayda and Aiden Walker, siblings who have recently been given a new last name, are now experiencing the joy of having a loving forever home during this enchanting season.

“It feels amazing to finally have everything settled and complete. This holiday season is going to be so much better now that we have this weight lifted off our shoulders,” Ashley expressed.

According to Ashley, the adoption process was both lengthy and filled with emotional ups and downs. However, she acknowledges that their circumstances made it somewhat easier to navigate through the journey.

“The advantage of having a kinship family is that the children are already acquainted with our way of doing things and the extended family. Therefore, we will continue with our usual staple foods and have the family over, keeping it simple,” Ashley explained.

Child Protective Services acknowledges that the process of reuniting children with their families is far from easy.

Chaitra Dangerfield, the CPS supervisor of Region 5, explained that when families want to become foster parents, they must undergo a thorough home study and background checks. This process ensures that CPS gathers all the necessary information about the family and carefully evaluates their suitability for fostering.

According to Dangerfield, the obstacles one faces in life are worth the immeasurable sense of fulfillment they bring.

“Experiencing the heartwarming sight of those children being united with their forever families brought immense joy,” expressed Dangerfield. “The atmosphere was filled with love and happiness, and witnessing the tears of joy was truly a remarkable and unforgettable experience.”

The Walkers are filled with love, support, and an abundance of holiday cheer as they eagerly embrace the future and eagerly anticipate the countless holidays they will joyfully celebrate together.

Ashley emphasized that committing to something is a lifelong endeavor.

Over 2,000 children in Texas are currently awaiting the opportunity to find their permanent homes.
