Random shot claims life of 28-year-old Texas high school coach during conference

On Tuesday, just after midnight, Ayden Burt, a 28-year-old Texas high school coach, was tragically shot and killed at a rooftop bar in San Antonio. The incident appears to have been a random act of violence.

As per the initial report by the police, Burt was seated on the patio with her back facing the highway when a gunshot rang out. Unfortunately, she was struck on her right rear shoulder.

In a heart-wrenching post on X, Coach Rob Murphy shared his condolences for Ayden Burt’s family and community. He vividly recalled how Ayden was sitting next to him, laughing and talking, and the next moment, bleeding in his lap. Despite his coaches’ best efforts, including performing CPR, they couldn’t save her life. Ayden was full of excitement for the upcoming year, and her sudden and tragic passing has left everyone involved traumatized.

Burt was a coach at Jasper Independent School District.

Jasper School Superintendent John Seybold has expressed his sorrow upon learning of the passing of Ayden Burt, one of their esteemed staff members. In a statement, Seybold asked for prayers of comfort for Burt’s family, as well as the extended family of the students and staff of Jasper ISD.

According to the statement from the school district, students and staff will have access to continuous support.

Burt has been a part of the school district community since 2019, where he taught English at Jasper High School and the junior high. Along with teaching, he also took on the roles of Cheer Sponsor and coach.

The THSCA Coaches School and Convention released a statement revealing that Burt, who was 28 years old, was sitting on the rooftop patio facing away from Interstate 37 when a bullet hit her back. Despite being taken to the hospital, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

As of now, there are no leads on suspects involved in the shooting and authorities are still investigating the incident. It is still unclear what drove the shooter to carry out such an act of violence.

The San Antonio Police Department is seeking the assistance of the public in the case. They have requested anyone with information to come forward and provide it to them.
