A pair of 19-year-old high school students were arrested Thursday for reportedly beating a teacher inside a Florida school, who was pulled into the fetal position while being beaten on camera.
Around 2 p.m., Jayvis McClover and Roddrick McQueen approached a male teacher at Dillard High School and threatened him before launching a savage attack on him, according to Fort Lauderdale police.
The Broward County Public School teacher was repeatedly hit in the face and head, causing him to drop to the ground and go “in a fetal position attempting to guard himself against injury,” investigators said, according to ABC News.
Local 10 received footage showing one of the suspects on top of the teacher during the altercation.
As the two battled on the ground, video indicates that other workers intervened to separate them.
After getting to his feet, the educator looked to tug at one of his perps as security attempted to quell the fight, according to the local station.
“All you saw were a crowd of kids, and they jumped him,” one student told Local 10.
ABC News said that the teacher sustained facial injuries and back pain as a result of the incident.
The two teenagers were charged with violence against a public or private education employee.
Florida Board of Education member Daniel Foganholi Sr. described the attack on the teacher as “beyond disgraceful.”
“No educator should fear for their safety while doing their job. Schools must be places of learning, not battlegrounds,” he said on social media.
“Safe schools should be a safe place for everyone — teachers, students, and staff alike. We need real solutions: stronger disciplinary policies, better security measures, and a culture that respects and protects our teachers.”
McClover and McQueen were freed from detention following their court appearances, but they were instructed not to approach the instructor or the school, according to Local 10.
