A teenage boy is facing murder charges in Chicago.
According to police, he killed his 16-year-old girlfriend in a park last week by stabbing and beating her.
On Monday, a Cook County Juvenile Court judge ordered that the 15-year-old boy stay in detention.
In court, a Cook County prosecutor stated that the child was holding hands with Kaylah Love as they exited the McDonald’s on Roosevelt Road and Kedzie Avenue on March 16.
Minutes later, he allegedly attacked Kaylah in Horan Park, a few blocks away.
Kaylah’s family held a vigil for her in that park. The family declined to comment but thanked individuals who helped lead police to the arrest.
Due to his age, the 15-year-old child’s identity is currently unknown.
Prosecutors claim a witness to the incident recognized the youngster, and surveillance video followed him from the park to his home.
On March 16, police carried out a search order and found the items he was wearing.
Prosecutors also claim that Kaylah’s phone had the boy’s encrypted social media username marked as “boyfriend.”
Prosecutors informed the judge that the 16-year-old girl died of multiple severe injuries.
The child allegedly punched Kaylah in the face before continuing to abuse her on the ground with his feet and a glass bottle.
Kaylah, a cherished Manley Career Academy High School student, aspired to work in the culinary arts.
Kaylah’s relatives stated after her death that police were summoned to Horan Park on March 16 after receiving a complaint of a brawl in the park. They report that cops drove by the area but did not exit the car.
It took until the following day, March 17, to find the teen’s severely beaten body in the park.
Chicago police stated there is an internal inquiry regarding the incident.
The suspect is due back in court on April 16.
