Police Release The Identity Of A 23-year-old Homicide Victim; Suspect Sought

The Montgomery County Police Department has revealed further information about a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday morning in Silver Spring.

According to MCPD, “Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police—Major Crimes Division are investigating the homicide of 23-year-old Jonah Kimindo Mutua of Silver Spring, which occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025, in the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace.” Detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

At 11:04 a.m., 3rd District police and Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to the report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found Mutua in the parking area with obvious gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of a good Samaritan, first responders, and MCFRS staff, Mutua was declared dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore conducted an autopsy and determined that the death was a homicide.
