Police: Duo Arrested With Fake Ids, Drugs With Child In Back Of Stolen Car

Brookhaven police have apprehended two individuals who allegedly stole a car from Mississippi and attempted to deceive law enforcement officers.

On February 22, officers confronted the duo in a parking lot on Buford Highway, while their bodycams recorded the incident.

What we know: Police officers spotted a stolen vehicle while on patrol, as per the police report.

The officers interrogated the man and the woman discovered in the car. Both individuals provided conflicting accounts that lacked coherence, even down to minor details like the man’s name.

The officer in the footage sternly confronts the man, giving him a final opportunity to provide his genuine information. Frustrated with the previous response of ‘Seven,’ the officer warns that handcuffs will be used if the man persists in providing false information. The officer firmly asks, “What is your real name?”

“This is the only chance I’m gonna give you to give me your real information. What’s your correct name? If you say ‘Seven’ again you’re going in handcuffs. What’s your name?” one of the officers tells the man in the footage.

The police department emphasized that no matter how creatively one tells their story, it does not alter the consequences when driving a stolen car.

During the search of the vehicle, authorities discovered counterfeit identification cards, illegal drugs, and forged currency.

The duo was arrested, and during the time of their arrest, they had a child with them. However, the good news is that the child is now safe and in the care of their family members.

Here’s what people are saying:  “Lesson of the day: If you’re in a bad situation, don’t make it worse,” the Brookhaven Police Department wrote on Facebook. “Honesty might not set you free, but it’ll definitely keep you from digging a deeper hole.”
