A Marion couple, including a Perry woman, has been sentenced to jail over an alleged infant death.
According to court documents, Jacob Burns, 30, has been charged with a Class C Felony of Child Endangerment for Serious Injury, a Class C Felony of Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person, and a Class D Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, while Lacy Jo Eiteman, 29, has been charged with two counts of Class C Felonies of Child Endangerment for Serious Injury and Neglect or Abandonment of a Dependent Person. Burns and Eiteman were each sentenced to 20 years in jail.
The allegations resulted from an event on September 30th, 2024, when first responders arrived at a remote Marion County home to find an unresponsive three-week-old baby. According to court filings, Eiteman and Burns were the baby’s caretakers and informed authorities that they reportedly consumed alcohol and methamphetamine overnight before falling asleep with the baby between them.
According to the criminal complaint, the baby was found unconscious and with bruises on its body. According to court documents, arrest warrants were obtained on December 26th, and Burns and Eiteman were taken into jail on January 1st and January 23rd, respectively. Burns and Eiteman are both being held at the Marion County Jail.
