Oklahoma City Police arrested one of their own officers in Canadian County over the holiday weekend.
Officer Shamar Kitchens, 23, faces accusations of punching and sexually assaulting a woman in the backseat of his truck following a night out.
The arrest affidavit reveals disturbing details. The victim told police she feared for her life after Kitchens allegedly threatened her with a gun and fired a shot from his truck.
According to police, Kitchens, his sister, and the victim were leaving Norman on Saturday after drinking. The victim claimed Kitchens became enraged after she received a call from a man. She said he waved a gun, punched her six times in the face and head, and pulled her hair. Kitchens then reportedly forced the victim into the backseat.
“The officer had pulled over and sexually assaulted the victim as well as hit her,” said Littlejohn.
The victim told authorities that Kitchens continued threatening her with the gun, even pointing it at her head. He later dropped her off at a home in Yukon, allegedly telling her not to speak about the incident.
“The victim contacted police and had visible injuries,” said Littlejohn. “The officer was located and arrested for domestic violence, sexual assault, and other charges.”
Kitchens was hired as an Oklahoma City police officer in January 2023. In light of the allegations, police placed him on paid administrative leave.
“Anytime an officer is involved in an incident, we investigate it thoroughly, just like any other situation, regardless of their position or identity,” said Littlejohn.
Police added that before the assault, Kitchens had dropped his sister off at a Yukon home. He was released on a $66,000 bond from the Canadian County jail on Sunday.
