The former officer manager of a senior assisted living home in western North Carolina has been sentenced to prison for embezzlement.
Amy Elizabeth Curry, the office manager and bookkeeper at Silver Bluff near Canton, made over 150 unlawful bank transfers from the facility’s accounts.
Curry embezzled at least $1.5 million from December 2022 to April 2023.
She removed the wire transfer history from Silver Bluff’s bank accounts and prohibited other employees from receiving notice of the transfers. She also erroneously claimed that the transfers were for payroll.
Curry utilized the embezzled monies for personal needs, such as purchasing a pickup truck. She also lost almost $700,000 gambling at casinos with her lover.
She pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was sentenced to 70 months in jail, followed by three years on supervised release. She was also sentenced to return $1.5 million in restitution to Silver Bluff.
