According to authorities, over the weekend, two men were hit by city subway trains, resulting in one fatality, within a span of eight hours.
According to authorities, a man was hit by a Brooklyn-bound F train as it was entering the Second Ave. station near E. Houston St. on the Lower East Side at around 10:50 p.m. on Friday. The man was found on the tracks.
On Saturday, authorities were working to identify a man who died at the scene as reported by the police.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s presence on the tracks. Their main objective is to uncover how he ended up there in the first place.
Around 6:50 a.m., a 61-year-old man who was waiting for a Manhattan-bound Q train at the Atlantic Ave. station in downtown Brooklyn stumbled and fell onto the roadbed. Unfortunately, this happened just as a train was entering the station.
EMS quickly transported the man to New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital after he was hit by the train. Thankfully, he is expected to survive.
On Saturday, the incident was being investigated by law enforcement officers.
According to the MTA’s report in 2023, trains struck or clipped a total of 241 individuals, resulting in 97 fatalities.
