A man accused of rape in Alabama was apprehended at Atlanta’s airport on Thursday while attempting to return to his home country, according to US Customs and Border Protection.
The non-citizen was about to board a flight to Guatemala when authorities discovered an outstanding warrant for first-degree rape issued by Alabama’s Opelika police department.
The man taken from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Clayton County Jail, where he is awaiting extradition to Alabama.
“This arrest is another example of the agency’s commitment to enforcing U.S. Laws and collaborating with law enforcement partners across jurisdictions,” U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.
