Officials have reported that approximately 400 pounds of aluminum cans were gathered for recycling during the Carolina Country Music Fest held in Myrtle Beach.
This year, CCMF introduced a new initiative, which involved collaborating with the Medical University of South Carolina Children’s Hospital and South Carolina Firefighters.
According to Ryan Murphy, who is associated with the Myrtle Beach Fire Department and the South Carolina Burned Children’s Fund, the initiative may have only resulted in a market value of $160 for the collected cans. However, it successfully created awareness and prevented almost 14,000 cans from being dumped in a landfill.
Murphy expressed enthusiasm for the awareness raised for the SC Burned Children’s Fund and shared plans to improve the success of recycling efforts in the future. “Although we only collected a small portion of the cans this year, we have many ideas to increase our collection next year. This is just the beginning and we’re committed to making a greater impact,” Murphy stated.
The Burned Children’s Fund can utilize the raised money for its annual pediatric camp, known as “Camp Can Do.” This camp caters to burned children in the state and is provided to them free of cost. The funds will support this noble cause and help the organization in fulfilling its mission.
