Mystery Deepens as Freighter Hits Unknown Object in Lake Superior

It is common knowledge that a massive cargo ship collided with an object in Lake Superior, located north of Wisconsin, on the early morning of Saturday, June 8th. However, the specific nature of the object remains unknown, leading to various speculative theories.

Over the weekend, I had mentioned that the freighter Michipicoten collided with an object at around 6:53 am on Saturday morning. The impact caused the vessel to start taking in water, prompting the United States Coast Guard to initiate a rescue mission.

After ensuring that all crew members were safe, the next step was to safely escort the vessel to Thunder Bay, which was successfully accomplished. However, the mystery surrounding what the Michipicoten hit in Lake Superior, north of Wisconsin, has deepened. CNN reports that an investigation into the incident has begun.

As the authorities conduct their investigation into the incident involving the Michipicoten, rumors and speculation have emerged online. Some people are questioning whether the ship collided with a Russian submarine that was supposedly hiding in the Great Lakes. However, the validity of these claims remains uncertain.

On Quora, I stumbled upon a fascinating viewpoint shared by a few ex-military personnel, including a former submarine sonar Chief Petty Officer. According to them, while it is hypothetically possible for a submarine to reach the Great Lakes, the chances of it actually happening are highly unlikely and unrealistic. So, while the short answer is yes, the feasibility of this scenario is quite doubtful.

As we eagerly await the official reports from the US Coast Guard and Transport Canada regarding the vessel’s collision that caused severe hull damage, it’s crucial to debunk some of the more outlandish theories that are circulating. While the idea of a Russian submarine lurking in the Great Lakes may seem like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, it’s simply not a plausible explanation for the massive freighter’s impact. Let’s focus on the facts as we await more information.

I believe it is important to wait for the official facts from the investigators before jumping to any conclusions. It is best if we avoid making any wild speculations until we have a clearer picture of the situation.

As of 6-10-24 at 3:21 pm,  TB Newswatch has reported a new development in the investigation of the ship. Investigators have discovered a 13-foot crack in the hull of the vessel. They now believe that the freighter did not hit anything but instead experienced hull failure or fatigue. This new information is quite curious and raises further questions about the safety and maintenance of the ship.
