Unfit Mom Arrested in Upstate New York

A mother of four in Upstate New York was arrested this week by the police. Authorities allege that she left her four young children, all under the age of 12, unattended for several hours in appalling and unacceptable living conditions.

4 Kids Left in Horrendous Conditions

According to the New York Post, Lindsey Powell departed from her Connecticut residence on the evening of November 8th, leaving behind her three daughters and one son in what can only be described as “horrendous conditions” within their Vernon apartment.

According to sources, a concerned neighbor tipped off the police about Powell’s children.

Upon the officers’ arrival at their residence, they were greeted by an unexpected sight. The 11-year-old daughter bravely opened the door, with her three younger siblings standing behind her, completely unclothed.

“(A) resident had video of the mother, identified as Powell, leaving the apartment at 4 a.m. that morning and later, of the 11-year-old daughter walking outside without shoes on, and looking around the parking lot as if looking for her mother’s car.”  CT Insider

As soon as I walked in, a wave of unpleasant odors assaulted my senses. The overpowering stench of cat urine, rotting food, and feces filled the air, making it difficult to breathe.

A mother in Upstate New York has been arrested after allegedly abandoning her four children, leading to concerns about her fitness as a parent. The incident has raised alarm in the local community, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the abandonment. The mother’s arrest highlights the importance of ensuring the well-being and safety of children, as well as the need for support systems to help struggling parents in difficult situations.

Police Stayed with the Kids for Hours

Officers from the New York Post reportedly remained with the children for several hours as they made efforts to locate their mother. The source revealed that Powell had assured them she would return shortly, but she failed to follow through on her promise.

Neighbors also stepped in to provide the children with food before the state Department of Children and Families took over, according to the police.

According to the police, Powell left her four children unattended and subsequently made a suicide threat to a family member. She was later located in Poughkeepsie and apprehended.

The Bedroom Didn’t Have Beds

The sources claim that the living conditions were extremely poor. It was reported that the bedrooms lacked beds, and during a police inspection, they discovered a hamster in a cage on the pull-out couch, which was being used as a makeshift bed for some of the children.

The officer witnessed one of the children consuming leftover pasta from the floor, as reported by sources.

Powell is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, where he will face four charges of risk of injury to a minor.
