Brandon Anthony Courtney, a D’Iberville resident, was sentenced today by Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch following his arrest in Operation Press Your Luck, the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office’s cybercrime campaign.
The Attorney General’s Office found, investigated, and prosecuted Courtney’s case, and his conviction is a step forward in the state’s ongoing fight against online child exploitation.
“As a result of our cyber crime operation, we were able to take a dangerous predator off the streets before he could do more harm,” said Attorney General Fitch. “My office is dedicated to protecting the innocent and making our communities safer by investigating and prosecuting crimes like these. If you suspect a child is being exploited online or trafficked, please report it. Your tip could save a life.”
On March 5, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Keith Miller sentenced Courtney to 40 years in the Mississippi Department of Corrections, including 8 years serving day-to-day without the chance of release. He is also sentenced to:
- 5 years supervised probation
- $1,000 assessment to the Victims of Human Trafficking and Commercial Sexual Exploitation Fund
- $1,000 to the Crime Victim Compensation Fund
- $50,000 fine
- Mandatory sex offender registration upon release
