A 1-year-old child from Massachusetts was found with his mother in north Alabama after an alleged abduction.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reported that the Fall River Police Department issued a bulletin on Friday regarding an endangered missing infant.
FRPD explained that Genezza Packett, 22, visited her son, who is under her aunt’s custody, on Thursday. Packett claimed she was taking her child to a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts but never came back.
Further investigation suggested that Packett and the child were heading south by car towards Mississippi. This information was shared with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division troopers.
Around 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, ALEA troopers found the vehicle on Interstate 59 in Etowah County near Attalla. They conducted a traffic stop and safely recovered the child. Packett is now facing pending criminal charges by FRPD in Massachusetts.
“I commend the exceptional collaboration and communication of the Intelligence Analysts within our Fusion Center and our Troopers, along with our counterparts in other states, for their instrumental actions in the safe recovery of a missing 1-year-old child,” stated ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor in a press release. “Their dedication to duty and quick thinking resulted in the child’s safe recovery, exemplifying the true spirit of law enforcement and demonstrating the necessity of sharing intelligence with both local and state law enforcement partners.”
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available.
