A missing child from Andover was found after drowning.
According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at 6:56 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, to a report of a missing 3-year-old boy in the 12000 block of SW Prairie Creek Rd.
Deputies arrived at the scene around 7:12 p.m. and encountered a large property with a mix of timber and waterways. Multiple agencies, including the Augusta Department of Safety’s water rescue team, assisted in the search.
The BCSO reports that the child had been playing outside while an adult did yard work.
“The child wandered off and disappeared but was still believed to be on the property,” said the BCSO.
Search efforts continued until 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 21.
The child was found around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 16, in a waterway near the residence shortly after another search began, according to the BCSO.
Initial reports suggest this was an accidental drowning with no suspicion of foul play. An autopsy will determine the specific cause of death.
The child’s identity is not being released at this time. The child was a family member of the residents but not their child.
