On Thursday, several tornadoes struck areas of Texas and Louisiana during a Level 3 out of 5 severe weather alert. Many of these tornadoes impacted the Houston metro area. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries or major damage.
Severe Weather Warnings Issued
A three-hour radar loop highlighted various warnings across the region, with color-coded boxes: yellow for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings, red for Tornado Warnings, purple for Tornado Warnings with confirmed tornadoes, green for Flash Flood Warnings, and pink for Flash Flood Emergencies.
Additionally, watches have been issued across portions of at least five states. A watch indicates favorable conditions for severe weather development, urging residents to stay prepared for potential warnings.
Millions Urged to Stay Alert
Forecasters are advising millions from Texas to the Carolinas and as far south as Florida to remain vigilant throughout the weekend. Below is a closer look at the evolving threat.
Current Situation
Storms have already begun forming Saturday morning, stretching from Texas to Mississippi. Several Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued, signaling an active and dangerous weather pattern.
Long-Track Tornadoes Expected Saturday
A Level 4 severe weather zone is in effect for parts of Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas. Meanwhile, a Level 3 zone extends from Texas to Florida.
Severe storms developing late Saturday morning into the night are expected to bring large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. Some of these tornadoes could be strong, classified as EF-2 or higher, and long-track tornadoes—potentially EF-3 or greater—are a growing concern.
“These discreet supercells developing across East Texas this afternoon pose a significant risk,” explained FOX Weather Meteorologist Jane Minar. “We could see several long-track, EF-3 or stronger tornadoes.”
Severe Weather Threat Shifts East on Sunday
By Sunday, the storms are expected to push eastward, with the greatest risks spanning from Virginia to Georgia. Tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail remain possible as the severe weather continues to threaten the region.
