Cartels are rushing to transport migrants across the border before Trump assumes office, according to a police chief.
Mexican Border State Seizes Semi and Arrests Driver for Allegedly Transporting 257 Migrants to U.S. Border
Authorities in the Mexican border state of Chihuahua have taken action against human smuggling operations, seizing a semi-truck and apprehending its driver. The driver is accused of transporting 257 migrants from different countries to the U.S. border.
At a highway checkpoint outside Chihuahua City, the Mexican army inspected a double semi-trailer and discovered a distressing scene. Upon unlocking the trailer doors, they found numerous individuals huddled together, including over 50 children.
Agents from the National Migration Institute transported the migrants to facilities in Juarez last Friday, as stated by the Mexican Defense Ministry (SEDENA). Mexican authorities have released images depicting the migrants undergoing processing, receiving water, and undergoing an initial screening inside a spacious tent. The pictures also show the migrants residing in tight quarters within the trailer boxes.
Chihuahua Public Safety Secretary Gilberto Loya reported on Monday that several migrants in the trailer hailed from African countries.
According to Loya, the Mexican Attorney General’s Office was given advance information about the semi-truck and its cargo. As a result, they promptly notified local authorities, the army, and the National Guard.
According to him, there is a concern that transnational criminal organizations are hastily trying to smuggle migrants across the border before President-Elect Trump assumes office in January.
According to Loya, it is uncommon for smugglers in the state to transport people in a trailer box like cargo. This suggests that organized criminal groups may be increasing their efforts to traffic and transport individuals.
According to the spokesperson, it is not the first instance of African migrants being discovered while attempting to reach the border. In fact, the state police have rescued numerous individuals from precarious “kidnapping situations.”
According to Loya, the state police received information that there were approximately 150 migrants in the double trailer, including 57 children. State officials later referred additional inquiries to the Mexican army.
