Manhunt Ends in Tragedy as Suspected Murderer Found Dead Days After Wife’s Killing in Richmond

Richmond man charged with killing his wife found hanging from tree in Needville

Days after his wife’s body was discovered in their Richmond residence, an accused killer was discovered deceased. Currently, the couple’s two-year-old daughter in Colombia will be raised without either parent.

Jon Venegas Romero had been the subject of a manhunt since Monday, when Fort Bend County Sheriff’s deputies discovered Anyi Montealegre Izquierdo, 23, who had been fatally wounded inside the couple’s mobile home on FM 762.

Investigators received information on Monday evening that Romero had been observed in the 2200 block of  Richmond Street in Needville. A 17-acre wooded area was searched by SWAT team members, a helicopter, and K9s. They discovered the suspect’s vehicle; however, there was no indication of his presence.

FBCSO was notified on Friday morning that a man had been discovered suspended from a tree on Jeske Road in Needville. He has been tentatively identified as Romero on the basis of his passport, tattoos, and the clothing he was observed donning in surveillance footage.

Sheriff Eric Fagan stated, “We are currently conducting a comprehensive review to verify that all procedures have been adhered to and to exclude any evidence of foul play. Nevertheless, it appears that this was a suicide at this time.” “Our thoughts are with the families who have been affected by this tragic situation.”

On Wednesday, Izquierdo’s family members informed us that her spouse had lived in the jungle in his native Colombia for the entirety of his life and was capable of thriving in rural areas. They were concerned that he might cause harm to another individual if he was not apprehended.

Her cousins stated that they attempted to intervene on numerous occasions due to the constant fighting that ensued between the couple following their relocation to the United States approximately one year ago.

A acquaintance stated, “There will be numerous battles.”

They claimed that Romero attempted to murder her while they were residing in Colombia.

“A cousin informed us that he had already been the victim of a murder attempt.”

Izquierdo, according to the cousins, was unable to abandon him and accompanied him to the United States in order to raise funds for their family and the toddler they had left behind.

Currently, they are left to lament the young woman who they described as being full of kindness and aspirations.
