Early on Sunday morning, a tragic incident occurred on the northeast side of Indianapolis as an individual was shot and killed. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into the matter.
Police responded to a report of a person down in the 3600 block of East 39th Street at around 8 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a victim with injuries consistent with gunshot wounds. The victim, identified as an adult male, was declared dead at the scene.
At the time of writing this article, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) has not disclosed any suspects related to the case.
During a recent media briefing, IMPD public information officer William Young emphasized the importance of cooperation in solving crimes. Despite the city’s investment in technology, Young stated that witness cooperation is still the most effective tool in law enforcement. He cited the success of homicide arrests and aggravated assault cases as evidence of this.
During an interview with FOX59 and CBS4, a woman reported discovering a deceased man lying next to a mailbox near her apartment complex. She shared that she heard gunshots the previous night between 9 and 10 p.m. and found the man dead roughly 30 feet from her doorway the following morning.
Upon witnessing what she thought were gunshot wounds to the man’s head and back, the woman took swift action by dialing 911 at approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday.
According to Young, the investigation is still in its early stages, and they are working to determine exactly what happened. The police are unsure of how long the suspect had been outside before the incident. Young stated that they would be speaking with neighbors to gather more information, and encouraged anyone who heard shots fired during the night to come forward. The police are asking for the public’s help in piecing together the events that led to the incident.
If you have any information about the shooting, please reach out to detective Ryan Clark at the IMPD Homicide Office by calling (317) 327-3475 or sending an email to Ryan.Clark@indy.gov. The police urge tipsters to come forward and provide any details that may help with the investigation.
