One Tennessee man wasarrested after leading police on a chase in Laurel County.
Naythen Edwards, 33, was detained about 9:11 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.
The incident began when Edwards drove erratically on Interstate 75 in London.
After police attempted to stop Edwards, he sped away from them.
Edwards damaged his vehicle when exiting the freeway at exit 15 before resuming travel.
When Edwards realized he couldn’t drive the vehicle anymore, he pulled over to the side of the road and attempted to flee officers on foot into a densely wooded area.
According to Hobie Daugherty, public affairs officer with the London Police Department, “Our goal is just to make sure our roadways are safe for everyone, and with the behavior he was exhibiting, it was paramount that we got him off the road.”
After being caught, Edwards admitted to authorities that he had swallowed narcotics in his possession.
It was also believed that Edwards was a registered sex offender on parole in Tennessee.
A local emergency room administered Narcan to Edwards and sent him for treatment for the opioids he had consumed. He was then sent to the Laurel County Correctional Center.
Edwards was charged with wanton endangerment in the first degree, first-degree evading/fleeing police (motor vehicle), operating a motor vehicle under the influence of substance in the first degree (aggravated circumstances), fleeing/evading police—first degree (on foot), possession of a controlled substance in the first degree—first offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance—first degree (fentanyl), tampering with physical evidence, and a host
