Man Arrested After High-Speed Chase in Texarkana

Galveston Man Sentenced to 99 Years for Murder During 2023 Jeep Weekend

A man is behind bars after leading police on a high-speed chase early Tuesday morning. The incident began when a Texarkana police officer spotted a car that matched the description of a stolen vehicle around 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Upon noticing the vehicle, the officer attempted to follow it, but the driver quickly accelerated, attempting to evade arrest. According to the Texarkana Police Department, the driver sped through alleyways in a manner reminiscent of a Hollywood action sequence. However, as Texarkana PD humorously pointed out, “real life doesn’t come with a stunt coordinator.”

The driver’s escape came to an abrupt halt when he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to turn onto West 6th Street, crashing into a nearby fence. After the crash, the driver fled on foot into the nearby woods.

The search for the suspect was short-lived. Officer Cole Bredenberg and K9 Thor quickly arrived on the scene and managed to locate the driver within minutes, bringing the high-speed chase to a close.

The driver, Johnny Washington, a 63-year-old man from Texarkana, Arkansas, was arrested and taken into custody. According to jail records, he was booked into the Bi-state Jail with a bond set at $20,000. Washington faces charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.

This incident highlights the swift and effective response by the Texarkana Police Department and their K9 unit in apprehending the suspect.
